The coin portrays a leaping rabbit among grasses with feathery plumes. Included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘rabbit’, the inscription ‘Rabbit 2023’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
First issued in 1995, the long-running Australian Lunar Coin Series celebrates the animals of the ancient Chinese lunar zodiac calendar with a sequence of annual designs portraying the mouse, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.
The obverse depicts the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the coin’s weight, purity and monetary denomination.
