These unique silver nickels were issued during WWII to address the shortage of nickel needed for the war effort. Minted between 1942 and 1945, these coins contain 35% silver and feature Jefferson’s portrait on the obverse, and his home in Monticello on the reverse. Sold in groups of 20 each, for a total face value of $1.
